What Are the Health Benefits of Copper?

23

32

As a trace mineral, copper plays a part in the body by promoting the absorption of iron, participating in the production of red blood cells, as well as the production of collagen. Research has shown that it can help the immune system and overall human health, but in very small quantities.

More research is needed, but there are some indications that copper can improve osteoporosis (low bone density), and there are unproven theories that copper bracelets can be used to relieve pain in the joints from arthritis.

There are some foods that contain copper, including leafy greens, whole grains, seeds, and nuts. Specific food items that are high in copper are oysters, shiitake mushrooms, sweet potatoes, and dark chocolate.
